Commemorate and Celebrate

So they brought the ark of God and set it in the midst of the tent which David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. 2 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord. 3 And he distributed to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins. 4 He appointed Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord and to celebrate [by calling to mind], thanking and praising the Lord, the God of Israel: 5 Asaph was the chief, next to him Zechariah, Jeiel (Jaaziel), Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, and Benaiah, Obed-edom and Jeiel, who were to play harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals; 6 Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God. 7 Then on that day David first entrusted to Asaph and his brethren the singing of thanks to the Lord [as their chief task].  1 Chronicles 16:1-7 AMP

David appointed regular singers and musicians – musical priests from the ranks of the Levites – to minister continually before the ark. Their job description was to play musical instruments, blow trumpets in front of the Ark of the Covenant and sing and worship God continually. They were to personally worship God and also lead the congregation in worship. They were appointed to thank and praise God and call to mind – for the people – what God had done for Israel. They were to record – which means: commemorate; earnestly make mention of; be mindful of; recount; remember; make to be remembered; bring into, or keep in, remembrance; think on – the good things God had done. They were to celebrate the goodness of God and continue to remind the people – in music and song – what God had done, how good He is, and what He had promised. These psalmists ministered continually, morning and evening, from this time on through all of David’s life and also part of the time when other kings ruled. God’s praises should be continually in our heart and mouth!

O give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known His doings among the peoples! 9 Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; meditate on and talk of all His wondrous works and devoutly praise them! 10 Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! 11 Seek the Lord and His strength; yearn for and seek His face and to be in His presence continually! 12 [Earnestly] remember the marvelous deeds which He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered [as in Egypt], 13 O you offspring of [Abraham and] of Israel His servants, you children of Jacob, His chosen ones! 14 He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth. 15 Be mindful of His covenant forever, the promise which He commanded and established to a thousand generations, 16 The covenant which He made with Abraham, and His sworn promise to Isaac. 17 He confirmed it as a statute to Jacob, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, 18 Saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the measured portion of your possession and inheritance. 19 When they were but few, even a very few, and only temporary residents and strangers in it, 20 When they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people, 21 He allowed no man to do them wrong; yes, He reproved kings for their sakes, 22 Saying, Touch not My anointed, and do My prophets no harm.  1 Chronicles 16:8-22 AMP

After David appointed the psalmists, he began to do just what he had instructed them to do. He began to worship and praise God, commemorating His goodness and His glory. He did it for himself personally, and also led them in it, and in so doing, demonstrated to them what their function was to be. Not merely their function, but their very heart attitude – because praise comes from the heart. We don’t do it out of duty we do it out of genuine love and thanksgiving!

David admonished them to:

1. Give thanks unto the Lord.

2. Call upon His name.

3. Make known His deeds among men.

4. Sing unto Him.

5. Sing psalms unto Him.

6. Talk of all His wondrous works.

7. Glory in His holy name.

8. Let the hearts of seekers rejoice.

9. Seek the Lord.

10. Seek His strength.

11. Seek His face evermore.

12. Remember His marvelous works.

13. Remember His wonders.

14. Remember the judgments of His mouth.

15. Be always mindful of His covenant.

In this psalm, we find four elements of true thanksgiving:

-remembering (and commemorating) what God has done,

-telling others about Him and what He’s done

-showing God’s glory to others, and

-offering your own gifts – giving yourself, your time, and your resources.

If you are truly thankful, your life will show it – people will see it, and hear it, in and through you.

Praise and thanksgiving should be a regular part of our routine – each and every one of us – and we should not reserve it only for celebrations. These are some of the things that you should keep in mind when you are praising and worshipping God. Give thanks to God; call on His Name; sing to Him; sing about Him; sing about what He has done; remember and speak of His wonderful works; glory in His name; let your heart rejoice; seek the Lord – His face and His strength; remember His commandments. We should also be always mindful of His covenant – be mindful of: all that He has done for you;  all that He has done in you; all that He has promised; who He is to you; who you are in Him; how faithful He is; how generous He is; how awesome and wonderful He is! He is indeed worthy of our praise!

He Who Has a Glad Heart Has a Continual Feast

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!  Philippians 4:4 NKJV

All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances].  Proverbs 15:15 AMP

It is our duty and privilege to rejoice in the Lord – at all times and in all conditions. The joy of the Lord is our strength (Neh. 8:10)! The Lord supplies us with all the grace we need to meet any circumstance of life fully (2 Cor. 12:9). Our attitudes color every aspect of our lives. We cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can choose our attitude toward the situation and how we respond. The secret to a happy heart and a happy life is to fill our thoughts with things that are good, pure, and lovely, dwelling on the good things in life (Phil. 4:8). If good men (and women) do not have a continual feast, it is by their own choice – they cannot blame God -it is their own fault (Prov. 15:15)!

We rejoice because God has made our heart glad:

Is anyone among you afflicted (ill-treated, suffering evil)? He should pray. Is anyone glad at heart? He should sing praise [to God].  James 5:13 AMP

We choose to rejoice; and rejoice again:

Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.  Philippians 3:1a KJV

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!  Philippians 4:4 NKJV

Rejoice always.  1 Thessalonians 5:16 NKJV

We rejoice jubilantly – in high spirits:

But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits.  Psalms 5:11 AMP

But let the [uncompromisingly] righteous be glad; let them be in high spirits and glory before God, yes, let them [jubilantly] rejoice! 4 Sing to God, sing praises to His name, cast up a highway for Him Who rides through the deserts — His name is the Lord — be in high spirits and glory before Him!  Psalms 68:3-4 AMP

We rejoice because we are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ and partakers of His holiness:

Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you [uncompromisingly] righteous [you who are upright and in right standing with Him]; shout for joy, all you upright in heart!  Psalms 32:11 AMP

Rejoice in the Lord, O you [uncompromisingly] righteous [you upright in right standing with God]; for praise is becoming and appropriate for those who are upright [in heart].  Psalms 33:1 AMP

The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall be glad in the Lord and shall trust and take refuge in Him; and all the upright in heart shall glory and offer praise.  Psalms 64:10 AMP

Light is sown for the [uncompromisingly] righteous and strewn along their pathway, and joy for the upright in heart [the irrepressible joy which comes from consciousness of His favor and protection]. 12 Rejoice in the Lord, you [consistently] righteous (upright and in right standing with God), and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.  Psalms 97:11-12 AMP

We rejoice because He is our provider; our source and supply:

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.  Psalms 37:4 AMP

Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things! 22 Be not afraid, you wild beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness have sprung up and are green; the tree bears its fruit, and the fig tree and the vine yield their [full] strength. 23 Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord, your God; for He gives you the former or early rain in just measure and in righteousness, and He causes to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.  Joel 2:21-23 AMP

We rejoice because He is our comforter and defender:

When I said, My foot is slipping, Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, held me up. 19 In the multitude of my [anxious] thoughts within me, Your comforts cheer and delight my soul!  Psalms 94:18-19 AMP

We rejoice because sorrow is not an option:

A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.  Proverbs 15:13 AMP

All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances].  Proverbs 15:15 AMP

We rejoice in His goodness:

So now arise, O Lord God, and come into Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength and power. Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let Your saints (Your zealous ones) rejoice in good and in Your goodness.  2 Chronicles 6:41 AMP

We rejoice because our names are written down in heaven:

Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.  Luke 10:20 NKJV

Finally:

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have any being. 34 May my meditation be sweet to Him; as for me, I will rejoice in the Lord. Psalms 104:33-34 AMP

As for me I WILL rejoice in the Lord!

Paid in Full – How to Get Out of Debt

“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has,”

reads Proverbs 21:20 NIV.

Debt is, “something owed,” according to Webster’s Dictionary.

· Debt robs from your future to pay for your present.

· Debt is a spirit – Debt is a product – Debt is a habit.

I. Why do people get in debt?

· Ignorance – “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…,” reads Hosea 4:6. Most people were not trained on how to properly handle money. The media’s job is to sell, sell, sell and we buy, buy, buy. If you don’t have the money, no problem, just charge it. When you do this, it will lead you into indulgence.

· Indulgence – “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises,” declares Hebrews 6:12. We live in a “now” society. We are a fast food society. We say, “I will not wait; I cannot wait; I will find out how to get it now.” Most young couples acquire within three years everything that it took their parents to acquire in a lifetime. (For example: house, two cars, furniture, big screen TV, computers, etc.) The difference is that their parents waited till they had the cash to pay for it but young couples mortgaged, borrowed, leased, and charged everything. This is the result of poor planning.

· Poor Planning – A person that does not plan their income vs expenditures actually plans to fail without even knowing it. “The thoughts of the [steadily] diligent tend only to plenteousness, but everyone who is impatient and hasty hastens only to want,” reads Proverbs 21:5 AMP.

II. How to get out of debt:

a. For the next thirty days, keep record of every penny that you spend. If you are married, both of you keep records individually to establish an accurate budget.

b. You must establish a budget! Complete the Paid In Full Budget Sheet in full. Stop all forms of borrowing including credit cards. Perform plastic surgery on them. The sooner that you stop the borrowing, the sooner you will be out of debt.

c. Complete the Paid In Full Debt Calculation Sheet. Record debts in the order of smallest to greatest.

d. Save money by using the methods taught by Pastor Eric Gonyon that you feel comfortable with: insurance, credit cards, banking & ATM, envelope system, cash, etc. This will help you apply a Paid In Full accelerator to attack debt–one bill at a time. Soon, bills will be marked PAID IN FULL and eliminated. You will see that there is a way of escape from a mountain of debt. You are on your way to true financial freedom.

e. It’s time for you to be the lender and not the borrower. “The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow,” reads Deuteronomy 28:12.

f. Fund the END-TIME HARVEST!

“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law,” states Romans 13:8.

What Is Celebrate America?

Drs. Rodney and Adonica Howard-Browne, with Revival Ministries International, are looking forward to Celebrate America just as they did in the summer of 1999 when, for six weeks consecutively, they rented Madison Square Garden, the world’s most famous arena, for Good News New York!

Drs. Rodney and Adonica Howard-Browne are inviting local churches, the community, and members of government, in which many of them will be sharing their faith, and all nationalities to be a part of Celebrate America. We are celebrating America as she turns 239 years old. During Celebrate America, we will commemorate the Declaration of Independence and what the Constitution of the United States has meant to this land. We will celebrate the heritage of America and our Founding Fathers who acknowledged “firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence.” We will remember The Great Spiritual Awakenings of this land, the impact of which they made, and The Great Awakening that is soon to come. Celebrate America.
